Departament of Guajira, Colombia.
The Guajira ( in wayuunaiki: wajiira), is one of 32 departaments that form the republic of colombia, and is located in the northern part of the country, it is a huge peninsula with a privileged location in the caribbean sea. occupies an area of 20,848 km2 (As large as the Republic of the Salvador) and is populated by 846,000 residents of which a large part belongs to indigenous groups, in the south we find the Kogui, Ika, Kankuamo and Wiwa; the center and north are the territory of the Wayuu group, one of the most numerous and organized of the country. This group has adapted to the desert conditions of the Alta Guajira in a place predominantly flat and barren, with some mountains that do not exceed 1,000 meters in height. What is curious in that the nature with so few elements has been able to build something so wonderful: incerdible landscapes where there are different micro-climates and developed a very special flora and fauna. These conditions make the departament of la Guajira in a place almost surreal, unique in the whole of South América and it is frequented by tourists from all over the world who appreciate nature and prefer to get away from the crowds and saturated spas of the colombian caribbean, to enjoy a more ecological tourism and intimate and who appreciate the contact with nature and are attracted to the millenary customs of its indigenous residents
